World Touring Melbourne (WTM) has successfully defended litigation arising from the cancellation of the 2020 Australian Grand Prix and associated Robbie Williams concert following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gadens acted for WTM in proceedings against the Australian Grand Prix Corporation in a highly contested dispute. Following WTM's success at trial, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation sought leave to appeal the decision. The Victorian Court of Appeal unanimously rejected the application, affirming the original outcome in WTM's favour.

The decision brings to a close a significant dispute arising from one of Australia's most high-profile event cancellations and reinforces the principles governing the circumstances in which issues can be raised on appeal.

Lead Partner, Simon Theodore, said:

"The outcome provides certainty for our client and concludes a complex dispute arising out of the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. We are proud to have worked closely with World Touring Melbourne to secure a successful result both at trial and on appeal."
