Biography
James advises on the full lifecycle of distressed debt, from informal workouts and refinancing to formal insolvency appointments, security enforcement and financial services litigation. He is experienced in managing non‑performing loan exposures, distressed debt trading and risk management for financial institutions and understands how lenders respond to stress events.
James works across complex insolvency administrations, including liquidations, receiverships, deeds of company arrangement and schemes of arrangement and advises clients on directors’ duties, safe harbour protections and risk mitigation strategies. His clear, commercially grounded approach has seen him act on some of Australia’s most significant restructurings and insolvency matters.

Advised voluntary administrators throughout all aspects of the administration and sale of Sara Lee’s Australian business, managing complex PPSR, employment, intellectual property and foreign stakeholder issues to achieve a sale that preserved the brand and retained approximately 200 jobs. -

Advised, as the receivers and managers of Halo Food Group on all aspects of the receivership including assisting the voluntary administrators in the application to extend the convening period of administration, negotiating PPSR arrangements and asset sales. -

Advised on all aspects of the administration of Navarre Minerals, including security and employment issues, creditors meetings, preparing the DOCA and creditors trust deed in connection to the sale of the business and listed entity. -
