Biography

Matthew brings more than 30 years' experience across top-tier law firms and senior in-house roles spanning Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, London, the Cayman Islands and Hong Kong. Clients value his strategic approach, clear communication style and ability to deliver practical solutions.

His background spans international banking and finance (including offshore jurisdictions), complex advisory work and senior legal counsel positions within major financial institutions and ASX companies, giving him a practical understanding of regulatory compliance and commercial imperatives.

During his time as Senior Legal Counsel at AMP Capital, he advised on major international fund management transactions, including the $28bn sale of infrastructure funds to Dexus and the transfer of $47bn in assets under management to Macquarie Asset Management. He led the sale of AMP Capital's shopping centre funds management portfolio to GPT, and the divestment of global infrastructure assets to DigitalBridge in the UK.

Matthew acts as borrower counsel for large corporate and institutional borrowers, drawing on his extensive banking and finance background having previously acted for all four majors and most of the leading international banks in Australia. He advises lenders, funds and investment managers on financial services law, including obtaining AFSLs and ACLs, fund structuring and related TMD, DDO, PDS and IM compliance.
