Gadens Brisbane announces merger with MacGillivrays

Gadens is consolidating its position as one of Queensland’s largest and most influential legal firms with today’s announcement that its Brisbane office will merge with MacGillivrays.

MacGillivrays is a long-established name in the Queensland legal market, highly respected for more than 50 years for its financial services and recoveries, dispute resolution, property and commercial law services.  The firm is also Queensland's largest specialist retail mortgage documentation practice and one of the largest in Australia.

Gadens Brisbane Chairman Paul Spiro said the merger is a natural complement to the rapidly growing firm’s existing strengths.

“This deal makes Gadens the stand-out banking and finance practice in town and also assists our ongoing growth in the corporate, commercial, property and private client areas by picking up some very experienced commercial lawyers,” Mr Spiro said.

“As one of the State’s largest law firms, we are now even better positioned to capitalise on the rebirth of Queensland business that we are already seeing in 2013. This merger reflects our continued confidence in the Queensland market.”

MacGillivrays Managing Partner Craig Green says the merger will provide his practice with a platform to thrive.

“We’re joining the market leaders in financial services and the synergies are great news for our clients and our staff across our broad practice,” Mr Green said.

“Almost everybody in the Queensland legal market has noticed the growing influence of Gadens across a number of key areas – insolvency, corporate, property, resources, insurance, workplace relations, as well as financial services. To play a part in the next chapter of this growth is very exciting for all of us involved."

Both firms emphasised that a strong cultural alignment will be a key driver of future success.  “Gadens and MacGillivrays are both very agile, outcomes-focused businesses”, Mr Spiro said.  “Much of our success is due to the client experience and the Macgillivrays team is only going to enhance that.”

The merged firm will trade under the name Gadens Lawyers and will be based in Gadens’ recently established premises at One One One Eagle Street.
