Major Trade Promotion Changes in NSW

30 June 2020

Major changes to trade promotions regulations in New South Wales take effect tomorrow (1 July 2020).

The key change implemented by the Community Gaming Regulation 2020 is that a permit will no longer be required for a trade promotion with a total prize pool worth $10,000 or less.

This is a significant change that will be of great benefit to promoters.

However, a range of legal requirements will still apply to all trade promotions.  Indeed, the Regulation introduces some new requirements.

As the Regulation has only become available in final form very recently, we are still reviewing the details and will issue another update soon.  But at first glance, it appears the drafters of the Regulation have addressed many of the points we raised with them when we made a submission on an earlier consultation draft (see our article here).

Stay tuned for our detailed comments on the Regulation.
