Deal Profile | Gadens successfully negotiates contract for ARENA-PAC to establish an undersea internet cable connection for an international education network

Gadens has successfully assisted ARENA-PAC in its negotiations with Telkom Indonesia for the provision of an undersea internet cable connection between Guam and Universitas Brawijaya in Malang in Indonesia (https://ub.ac.id/), where it will interconnect with IDREN, the Indonesian Research and Education Network. Through IDREN, the new connection will provide more than 80 universities and research institutions throughout Indonesia, with the ability to exchange data with their counterparts abroad over 100 times faster than previously possible.

The connection will also provide students, researchers and lecturers in Indonesia with access to high-definition video streaming, cloud, distributed high-performance computing facilities and artificial intelligence. The additional speed will also significantly contribute to building vital research and education cooperation between Japan and Indonesia, and increase the Indonesian research and education sectors’ contribution to research and education, as well as digital transformation.

The signing of the Agreement took place on the sidelines of the G20 Digital Economy Ministers’ Meeting in Bali, and was witnessed by Indonesian Minister of Communication and Informatics and the Minister for Digital Transformation of Japan. A number of other Indonesian dignitaries were also present.
