Suzie Howard

Logan City Council Secondment

Suzie recently rotated into the Sports, Leisure and Facilities leasing team at Logan City Council. Suzie recently assisted in the preparation of a report which went to a Council meeting for consideration. Suzie has also had the opportunity to work and assist on leasing agreements for various sports and recreation clubs across Logan City. Furthermore, the Sport, Leisure & Facilities team in Council made it a priority this year to ensure shows and programs were delivered during Reconciliation. Last month one of the shows supported by the team was “The 7 Stages of Grieving” held at the Logan Entertainment Centre. It was a pleasure for Suzie to attend this theatre play as it was it an insightful performance into the journey of an Aboriginal woman through poignant and humorous stories.

Ruddigore by Queensland Opera

Suzie had the privilege of being Justice Phillippide’s guest at the Opening Dinner and performance of Ruddigore by Queensland Opera. This was her first time at the Opera and her first experience of a Gilbert & Sullivan play. The production was brilliant with stunning visuals and outstanding artists. Suzie was also fortunate enough to network with extinguished leaders such as Ian Gillespie, Group CEO of RACQ and Lindy Hume, Artistic Director of Opera Queensland.

Kathryn Dorante

Indigiso

Kathryn was recently offered the position as Events Coordinator at Indigiso – QUT's official Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student society. Indigiso encourages networking and community involvement, and also the celebration of Indigenous culture within the QUT community. In her capacity as Events Coordinator, Kathryn has organised a mid-semester bowling night at Strike Wintergarden, and Kathryn is currently in the process of coordinating our end-of-year celebration: Minna Deadly.

QUT Law Society

As mentioned, Kathryn was recently elected the 2018 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Officer in the QUT Law Society. This role will be handed down from Mikaela French, who is a fellow intern at Gadens Brisbane. Mikaela has already achieved an incredible portfolio for 2017, and Kathryn is looking forward to working with Mikaela to organise more events, networking and career development opportunities for the Indigenous law students at QUT. Kathryn has already had discussions with a number of students, and 2018 is already shaping up to be an exciting and rewarding year.
