Gavin is a Partner is our Disputes Group. He has practised in all areas of commercial litigation for over 30 years. His approach is to identify clients’ commercial objectives and the most effective and practical means of achieving them.

If the need arises to commence proceedings, he has extensive experience in all Federal and Victorian Courts. In addition he has conducted many negotiations of contentious matters and participated in numerous mediations and arbitrations.

He has a wealth of experience in risk management issues in the manufacturing, resources, financial, utility and agricultural sectors. He has advised on corporate governance issues and was for 12 years a Director of State Trustees Limited and the founding chairman of its compliance committee.

Gavin has been nominated by his peers as a “Best Lawyer” in the areas of Agriculture & Rural Affairs, Defamation and Media Law and Product Liability Litigation consecutively since 2014.

Specific assignments

Corporate and commercial disputes:

  • Disputes between contracting parties.
  • Issues between joint venturers, shareholders and directors.
  • Corporate governance.

Issues arising under the following parts of the Competition and Consumer Act:

  • Part IV – Restrictive Trade Practices.
  • Part IVA – Unconscionable conduct.
  • Part V – Consumer Protection.

Corporate fraud and corruption:

Advice as to all issues arising in relation to corporate fraud and corruption including the conduct of proceedings in those areas.

Defamation and contempt of court:

For a number of years Gavin undertook the defamation and contempt of court work in Victoria for one of Australia’s major broadcasters.  He has also acted for a number of plaintiffs in defamation claims.
